This series is dedicated to local pups having a harder time finding their forever homes, whether it be due to age, physical impairments, or just needing a little extra attention. We could all use a friend rn, so we’re spreadin’ the woof about this special somepawdy.
Name: Cypress
Stats: 2-year-old, 55-lb German Shorthair mix
Location: Denver

MaxFund: Cypress is the smiliest boy in town. He loves to fetch, snuggle, and serve as the president of the squirrel patrol here at MaxFund.
SWD: Well that confirms that Cypress is a dog, fur sure! What does he like to do for fun?
MaxFund: Cypress likes to rummage through the toy bin until he finds a ball. Whether it be plastic, rubber, or a tennis ball, he’ll find it with no help at all.
We have a local squirrel who lives in a tree in our off-leash range across from our shelter. Cypress and him have constant staredowns in that yard. One night, Cypress was in our courtyard and the squirrel popped up for a staredown before bedtime. It lasted 15 minutes.
SWD: He sounds like a pretty cool guy. So how is he still adoptable?
Maxfund: Cypress came to the shelter with his brother who was adopted out, but Cypress has taken a little longer to adjust to the shelter world. He’s had three prospective adopters, but all have fallen through due to no fault of his own. He doesn’t trust right away, so new people can be intimidating and scary to him. But once he knows you are trustworthy, he warms up right away. He has quite a big fan club of volunteers and staff here at MaxFund that keeps growing day by day! He has improved so much since the first day he arrived.
SWD: He definitely sounds like he deserves his fan club. Now let’s find him a #1 forever fan. What does his perfect home look like?
Maxfund: Cypress is looking for an experienced dog owner who’s patient and willing to give him time to adjust to a new home while continuing to work on training. Cypress can be picky with other dogs, but if introduced correctly, he could find a dog friend. He’s not good with smaller animals, so he cannot go to a home with cats, bunnies, or small dogs. Since he is bigger, he also cannot go to a home with humans under 16 years old.
We would like potential adopters to come hang out with Cypress a couple different times. During their visits, we will take Cypress on walks with our trainer and play in our yard! Be prepared to be impressed by his excellent fetching skills. Cypress will need to trust someone on MaxFund territory where he feels safe before going to a new home.
