Those who serve in the military sacrifice a lot of things just to keep our country safe. To make up for everything they missed, they often make their homecoming extra special.
U.S. serviceman Cameron Marin did exactly that when he brought home a pup he met during his service in Iraq, giving the pup the loving family he’s always deserved.
Cameron didn’t feel too lonely during his service in the Middle East thanks to a doggo named Sunny. The pup was often seen at the runway Cameron usually worked on to prepare military aircraft, allowing for the two to grow incredibly close.
Every morning, Cameron would see Sunny laying on the muddy ground to cool his paws from the blistering heat. This was always Cameron’s opportunity to call the pup to come closer so he could pet him. It was always that goofy run Sunny had that made Cameron go crazy about the sweet pup.
But when Cameron eventually had to leave Iraq, he couldn’t fathom the thought of leaving Sunny behind. His heart had already been stolen by the pup so he actively searched for a way to get him on a plane home to America.
Thankfully, there was a way to bring Sunny to the US. Through SPCA International’s Operation Baghdad Pups: Worldwide program, Cameron was able to send the pup to his home in New Hampshire. There, the pup waited with Cameron’s wife for the soldier’s turn to fly back home after completing his service.
Once Sunny entered his new home, he knew he had a warm future ahead of him. Cameron eventually finished his service in Iraq and is now taking care of his brand new doggo.
Now, Sunny lives an amazing life with his new family in New Hampshire, far from the heat and loneliness he used to endure in Iraq. Hopefully, he spends the rest of his dog days in comfort, filled with the love and support of Cameron and his wife.
