All stray dogs have a tough life having to live in the streets with nothing to keep them warm at night or cool during the summer. They go on trying to survive each day scavenging for food and water just to have something to eat.
One dog in Phuket, Thailand was seen outside a local 7-Eleven Store. He looked like he had such a terrible skin condition that it was painful to look at. Even though there were a lot of strays around the island, this poor pooch seemed like he needed some serious help as soon as possible.
A concerned woman saw the dog outside the store and realize his awful condition. She immediately called the Soi Dog Foundation, a local animal shelter in Phuket, to see if they can rescue the pooch. Luckily, they were able to send one of their rescue officers to come and pick up the dog.
He was named Garwen and was around eight-years-old at that time. He was diagnosed with demodectic mange, an itchy skin condition caused by mites on dogs. The pooch had a lot of bald patches and wounds that he could’ve gotten from scratching himself.
Garwen was also severely dehydrated when he was first brought into the shelter. The vets couldn’t figure out how long this poor dog had been suffering all alone. He looked very old and frail as well, they weren’t sure if he was going to survive.
According to Maeve Henry, the creative head at the Soi Dog Foundation, Garwen also seemed depressed and didn’t have any interest in eating. This all happened way back in October 2017 and little did the pooch know that his whole life was about to change.
Because of the vets and volunteers who did not give up on giving Garwen the love, care, and treatment that he needs, the pooch started recovering quickly. They were amazed at the furry boy’s improvement. He was back in full health and was ready for adoption.
Although Garwen seems to be a little reserved compared to the other dogs at the shelter, he is still a sweet pupper who enjoys cuddling with a hooman. The Soi Dog Foundation hopes that someone who is patient and caring can adopt Garwen soon, as he deserves the best home to live in.
