Cherry blossoms and tulips get all the attention in Washington during spring and summer, but they’re not the only flowers in town worth celebrating. We’re entering peak sunflower season in the Evergreen (or should we say, Everyellow?) State. Usually blooming from August through September, expect to see vibrant fields filled with little slices of pure yellow sun on display for all! And if you want to take pupper along for the perfect photo opp, you’re in luck! Sniff out three dog-friendly sunflower fields in Washington state.
Note: All farms ask that dogs be on leash and cleaned up after. You know, normal dog etiquette!
Maris Farms
Sunflower Days at Maris Farms in Buckley takes place Aug. 14 through Sept. 19. This is the second annual event for the popular eastern WA town, and visitors will find twice the number of sunflowers compared to last year: 7 whole acres! Each ticket gets you access to a dozen varieties of sunflowers, and the Feed Mill Ropes Course, barnyard ball zone, wall mazes, wagon rides, tether ball, and corn hole games. Take the whole fur family, and call it a day!
Rutledge Sunflower Festival
Only two weekends in August (14-15 & 20-22); if you blink, you just might miss the Sunflower Festival at Rutledge Corn Maze in Olympia! And your pup definitely doesn’t want you to do that. Think you know what a sunflower looks like? Sure, maybe one variety, but how about 46?! That’s how many different types of sunflowers are on display on the farm’s 4 acres of land. Included with your ticket is a wagon ride through the fields, one bloom to take home, and access to music and food vendors galore during your visit. Note: Dogs are only allowed during daylight hours to ensure everypuppy’s safety.
Sterino Farms
The sunflower field is officially in bloom at Sterino Farms in Puyallup, one of the first in the state to light up yellow this year! Another huge plus? The U-Cut Sunflower Festival is free, and you know doggo loves a good deal. That’s right, you don’t need a ticket to walk through the flower fields! If you’d like to cut your own to bring home, each stem is $2. Fun [Random] Fact: If you plan on visiting and love pickles, you’re in luck! It’s Picklemania at the adjacent fruit stand, where you can grab some pickles, dill, or jars for your own canning needs. Would ya look at that!
