Love the idea of being in the great outdoors under a canopy of stars and trees, but hate the idea of sleeping on the ground and battling for turf with bugs, snakes, and other creatures (ew, David)? Or perhaps your prima donna pooch can’t stand the thought of sleeping on the hard ground. We get it! Luckily dog blessed us with poodles of Colorado dog-friendly cabins. We sniffed out 11 in our fave scenic spots. So grab your dog (and his posturepedic dog bed), and prepare for an adventure.
YMCA of the Rockies
We all boogie when we hear the old classic, YMCA (sorry not sorry the song is stuck in your head). Maybe the Village People stayed at YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park and Snow Mountain Ranch?! YMCA of the Rockies is loved for their on-site hiking trails with epic views of the quaint Estes Park, Glacier Creek, and of course, our beloved Rockies.
Dog-friendly deets: Pups allowed in 2-4 bedroom cabins. There is a nonrefundable nightly pet fee of $25 per pet, per unit, with a maximum pet fee of $250 per stay. 2-night minimum stay.
Colorado State Park Cabins
Does the word ‘glamping’ make your cub scout cringe? You and pup can ruff it on a budget and in style at Colorado State Parks. Five feature pooch-friendly cabins.
1. Golden Gate Canyon State Park
Located just outside of Golden near the Denver metro, Golden Gate Canyon State Park offers vast views and 6-person cabins nestled in the aspens. There’s no cell service, which is good bc your diva wants your undivided attention anyway. Pets allowed in cabins 1, 3, 4, and 5.
2. State Forest State Park
Set along the peaceful North Michigan Reservoir, State Forest State Park offers 4- and 6-person cabins. Is pup an introvert? State Forest is the pawfect place to enjoy swimming and fishing without having to battle the crowds. Pets permitted in all cabins.
3. Sylvan Lake
Situated in the White River National Forest, Sylvan Lake boasts stunning scenery, top-notch fishing, and superb hiking. Snuggle up with your fren on the large porch, or gather ‘round the fire pit. Cabins accommodate up to 6 people. Pets are permitted in cabins 2-9.
4. Vega State Park
Tired of people and looking for a truly remote backcountry escape with your winter wonder dog? Head to Vega State Park, near Grand Mesa National Forest, which features hiking, snow sledding, and ice fishing. Pets are permitted in cabins 1, 2, and 5.
5. Navajo State Park
For those who want all the conveniences and comforts of home, check out the 2-bedroom log cabins at Navajo State Park. Located right on the Colorado-New Mexico border, the park offers ample hiking, swimming, and fishing. Pets are permitted in cabins 28 and 31.
Dog-friendly deets: All state park cabins charge a $10 nightly pet fee, and only certain cabins are dog-friendly (outlined above). Dogs must be kept on a leash of 6-feet or shorter at all times. 2-night minimum stay. Bring your own linens, dishes, and camping stove. Reservations available online and by phone.
Glen Echo Resort
Is your dog a Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit fangirl? Head to Glen Echo Resort in Poudre Canyon, which feels like Colorado’s version of The Shire. The canyon features majestic bluffs, verdant canyons, forested lands, and the rushing rapids of the Poudre River. Glen Echo Resort offers 17 cabins, with both modern and primitive options, an on-site convenience store, and a restaurant.
Dog-friendly deets: Reservations available online and by phone. Contact ‘em to inquire about the nightly pet fee. Dogs must remain leashed and attended at all times.
Creekside Chalet and Cabins
Creekside Chalet and Cabins strives to be you and your fren’s home away from home. Doggo will love splashing in the creek and roaming on the path that runs through this stunning property in Salida. Be sure to check out the nearby dog-friendly tram. 1-3 bedroom cabins available. All offer modern amenities.
Dog-friendly deets: Reservations available online and by phone. Dogs need to be crated if left unattended. There is a nonrefundable nightly pet fee of $25 per pet, with a maximum of 2 pets allowed.
Waltons Mountain Cottage
Tucked in the quaint Manitou Springs at the foothills of Pike’s Peak, Waltons Mountain Cottage is heaven on earth. Pups’ll have a blast exploring the nearby Garden of the Dogs and Manitou Cliff Dwellings, then checking out dog-friendly shops downtown. If you’re more up for staying in and chilling, no problem. This 2-bed, 1-bath cabin features a fully stocked kitchen and a hot tub.
Dog-friendly deets: Reservations available online. Only one dog allowed.
Mountain Lodge at Telluride
Doggo wanna glamp like a celeb? Mountain Lodge at Telluride offers rustic elegance in an upscale resort setting. The cabins feature gourmet kitchens, gas fireplaces, WiFi, and private balconies to soak in the views. Plus, boasting more dogs than people, Telluride prides itself in being a dog-friendly community. Well-behaved woofs are welcome on the gondola and select boutiques around town.
