A theatre group held an outdoor performance on the streets of Turkey. One of the actors, Numan Ertuğrul Uzunsoy, played a character who falls off his horse and injures himself in the process. Like any other performer, he gave his all and made sure he looked the part.
The suspense music played in the background as the other cast members slowly and carefully laid the actor on the pavement. With bated breath, the crowd eagerly waited for the next scene. Uzunsoy’s enactment must be so impressive that he convinced the public with his acting skills.
It was so remarkable that he ended up drawing a concerned audience to the makeshift stage, leaving the watchers, including the actors, bewildered. The curious spectator was no other than a stray dog with dark colored fur. He spotted Uzunsoy’s injured character lying on the ground, so he went up to him and licked his face.
Eyes closed, Uzunsoy is still oblivious of the dog’s presence. The actor stayed in character, thinking it was one of the cast members. Perhaps that convinced the troubled canine that something was amiss, so he wrapped himself around the actor to comfort him.
The other cast members gently pulled the dog from the actor, but the canine refused to leave. When Uzunsoy finally figured who it was, he couldn’t help but break a smile and drop his character.
It was hard to resist the pup’s loving gesture, so he returned the affection as he lay on the ground. The crowd, witnessing everything, clapped their hands and cheered at the actors. Uzunsoy’s co-actors finally managed to accompany the stray dog offstage, where he lingered for a while before leaving on its own.
The dog’s attempt to rescue Uzunsoy moved him; it was like an angelic figure who tried to save him. Typically, an interference onstage can be a stressful moment for any performer, but this one indeed captured the audience’s hearts and the actors, most significantly, Uzunsoy.
The actor returned to the spot the next day in hopes of finding the dog. He wanted to return the sweet gesture by finding him a permanent home. The locals told him the canine would frequent the area, so he was optimistic he’d see him right away.
So far, the search wasn’t successful, but the actor was optimistic he would find him one day. His act onstage may be over, but his story with helpful canine has yet to reach its happy ending. We can only hope that his search will be fruitful and that he will not give up in his quest – and that is not a pretense!
