Does pup need a break from the mundane bork-from-home life? It’s time to pounce off that office chair and rejuvenate your daily routine with your furry assistant. By taking workcations near Minneapolis, you get a change of scenery without having to take PTO. We call that a two-fur-one. No matter your rover’s recipe for the ideal escape, we sniffed out 5 dog-friendly options that are sure to pawlease!
1. Stillwater Workcation
Just outside of the Twin Cities, visit Stillwater, the birthplace of Minnesota. This charming town is full of history and welcomes pups with open paws. Stay at the Lora where they’ll greet your good boy with bowls, a pet bed, a room service menu, and a list of local pet resources. They’ve also got a range of inspirational books—from dog massage to pet psychology—for guests to borrow. When floofer needs some fresh air, grab some caffeine at MADE Coffee or a refreshing drink at Thor’s Hard Cider.
2. Twin Cities Workcation
Pup beggin’ to get out of the house, but you don’t want to travel? Book a staycation-workcation at the Hewing Hotel. Let them know you’re coming with pup in tow and she’ll get her name on the welcome board. Yap about star treatment! When booking your workcation, ask about the “Doggy Boarding” gift package, which showers your angel with toys, treats, and other goodies. After you put in a day’s work, sniff out our dog-friendly directory for outdoor dining options, local attractions, and nearby dog parks.
3. Duluth Workcation
Located in the iconic Fitger’s Brewery, Fitger’s Inn is pro-pup and picturesque to boot. Their spectacular views of Lake Superior might just be the refreshing workcation that your pawffice assistant needs! Fitger’s Inn has 8 pet-friendly rooms (without fees), so just make sure to clarify that Fido will be joining when you make a reservation. After your woofer works hard finding the best new nap spot, head to Park Point Beach for a picnic, chill on the patio at Bent Paddle Brewery, or check out our Guide to Dog-Friendly Duluth for other ideas.
4. Mankato Workcation
Hop into the car for about 2 hours to get your paws on some R&R. The Holiday Inn Express in Mankato East welcomes up to 3 well-behaved woofers of any size for a fee of $35/night. For easy outdoor adventure access, rooms for pups are located on the lower two levels. Each room comes with free high-speed WiFi, a desk, and a nearby outdoor dog-waste station. No worries if your cowoofer has to stay back to finish pup her meetings—doggos may be left unattended in rooms if needed. When lunchtime rolls around, make it a long one and stretch your legs at Kiwanis Recreation Area’s off-leash parks or chow down on Pub 500’s dog-friendly patio. After work, sniff out the Javens Family Vineyard & Winery where they love leashed puppers on the patio. They even have a wine named “Patio Prints” in honor of their own floofs!
5. Central Minnesota Workcation
Cosmopawlitan cutie craving some hometown hospitality? Just over 3 hours northwest of the Twin Cities lies the hidden gem of Detroit Lakes. Reserve a room at The Holiday Inn and Suites on the shores of Big Detroit Lake and you’ll be steps away from fun on the water after your 9-5. It’s also close to the all-season Detroit Mountain Recreation Area that welcomes pups on its hiking and snowshoe trails. After a long day of meetings (that could’ve been emails), grab an outdoor table, an ice-cold beer, and an order of Macho Nachos at Zorbaz.
Bonus: FLOCK
Need to just get the heck outta the house for the day? FLOCK is a community-focused, 6,000-square-foot coworking space that welcomes small business owners, artists, freelancers and best of all—dogs. Located in the Whittier neighborhood of Minneapolis, FLOCK has a pup ton of amenities like local coffee, treats, a podcast recording studio, and community lunches, just to name a few. Whether you need a change of scenery for one day or you wanna rent a dedicated workspace, FLOCK has you covered with flexible membership options.
