Say what you will about Seattle summers (they’re beautiful, they’re too short, they make the winter worth it), but Seattle fall is the unsung hero of the PNW seasonal ranking! Colors everywhere you look, mild temperature changes–nature truly looking its best. And that is something not even a pandemic can change. We’ve rounded up a couple drives to take with your best buddy to get the most out of this incredible season. Read on for our top picks for where to see fall leaves near Seattle.
Leavenworth, WA
The quaint little town with so much spirit! This Bavarian-styled village in the Cascade Mountains is the perfect getaway in the fall. A little over two hours east of Seattle, the drive itself through Snoqualmie Pass will have you hanging your head out the window, too! Once in town, check out LOGE Leavenworth Hotel, a dog-friendly getaway with secluded individual cabins that are perfect for social distancing. The nearby trails alone will be enough to satisfy even the most energetic of pups!
Suncadia
The resort community southeast of the city in Cle Elum, WA is probably the closest getaway you can RUNRUNRUN to for a weekend getaway. Because it’s only a 90-minute drive, you can spend extra time meandering the 6,000 acres of forested mountain landscape you’ll find along the way. Washington Trails Association can point you guys to literally hundreds of trails, and feel free to stop by the cutest Love Bug Pet Boutique for a treat and a self-service wash down post hike. Because while Fido may let his freak flag fly in the dirty woods, you know he prefers cleanliness in all five of his beds at home.
Chuckanut Drive
Envisioning an army of squirrels pelting you and your car with nuts while your dog gleefully lives her dream come true? Good news for you, bad for your dog—you’ll both be safe driving from Burlington to Bellingham along Highway 11 on one of the most scenic routes our state has to offer. Alders and maples flood the road with bursts of color, and you’ll get a peek of Mt. Chuckanut itself along with views of the San Juan Islands along the way. Many, many cute shops pepper the drive, but our faves are The Rhody Cafe and Farm to Market Bakery next door. Pro Tip: The cinnamon rolls are drool-worthy, and nice employees’ll often give sweet pups a treat or two!
