This series is dedicated to local pups having a harder time finding their forever homes, whether it be due to age, physical impairments, or just needing a little extra attention. We could all use a friend rn, so we’re spreadin’ the woof about this special somepawdy.
Adopt Whiskey from Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue
Name: Whiskey
Stats: 2-year-old, 60 lb Chocolate Lab Mix
Location: Denver
Rescue: Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue
Sidewalk Dog: Holy fluff! She is pawsitively stunning. Tell us more:
Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue: She’s a very sweet-natured pup, and loves her humans and dog friends. Her special needs definitely do not hold her back; she’s so smart and easy to train.
Sidewalk Dog: Yeah, she looks like a smarty-pants. What else is she into?
RMLR: She loves playing fetch or tug-of-war with her toys, diving and lounging in her baby pool, taking walks, and wrestling with the big dogs at the dog park. Oh, and you won’t be able to resist her smile when she rolls over and asks for belly rubs.
SWD: We’d rub that belly forever and ever. What are her special needs?
RMLR: She was hit by a car and did not receive prompt care, so her spine healed incorrectly. Her nerve to her bladder and tail no longer works, leaving her permanently incontinent.
She wears a diaper inside and at night, and does very well with her care routine. We change her diaper every 4 hours or if she needs it, and wash her down with the hose or shower in the morning to keep her clean. She is on a special urinary food that helps keep her bladder clear of crystals. Overall, she is very easy to care for.
SWD: She’s lucky to have you, and anyone will be lucky to have her. What does her ideal home look like?
RMLR: She is kennel trained, but would be perfect for someone who works from or spends a lot of time at home. She is great with dogs and kids, and has learned to leave the cat alone. Since she [works hard,] plays hard, we recommend a dog companion her size or larger. P.S. If her future adopters live near Denver, we volunteer to dog sit for vacations!
