Everypuppy who’s anypuppy is doin’ the work and learning antiracism. Well, doggos, here’s your chance to put your money where your snoot is and support these amazing dog-friendly Black-owned businesses in Chicago.
1. Ava’s Pet Palace
Ava’s Pet Palace makes small batch treatos with simple, organic human-grade ingredients. Oh, and did we mention she’s 13? Already a business veteran with 5 years under her belt, we can confidently say we want to be Ava when we grow up.
2. Sir Dogwood
Pupper feeling pawsh? Sir Dogwood is a doggy department store featuring a curated selection of modern dog clothes, dog sweaters, collars, dog toys, and more. This shop supports women and BIPOC-led brands, emerging makers, and frens in need, too—they’re the proud sponsor of the newly-dedicated Sir Dogwood Dog Suite at One Tail at a Time’s Ellis Veterinary Clinic (led by a Black surgical team!).
3. Healing Tails Chicago
South Loop’s Healing Tails offers physical rehabilitation and holistic medicine for your number 1. They provide healing modalities like hydrotherapy, acupuncture, chiropractic, natural cancer and allergy support, and more to get your pal feeling his best.
4. Turner Haus Brewery
This highly-anticipated brewery coming to Bronzeville is set to emerge as the city’s lone Black-owned brew house. And if there are any good boys and girls in the house, they’ll be glad to know Turner Haus makes dog treats, too. We can hardly wait for this spot to open, and lucky for us, we don’t have to! Their brew collab Lillie is available at Pilsen’s Alulu, which has a dog-friendly patio.
5. Ina Mae Tavern
Head to Ina Mae Tavern‘s dog-friendly patio for delicious chef-driven, New-Orleans inspired noms. Need a little hair of the dog? They’re open for brunch, too. Or grab a slushie or Sno-Ball to-go!
6. Pup Stars Pet Care
Doggo need somewhere to be while you go wherever it is you go when you leave the house (rude)? Check out the Near West Side’s Pup Stars for walking, daycare, grooming, boarding, CBD products, an outdoor dog park, and more.
7. The Delta
Did you know you and pup can pretty much transport yourselves from Wicker Park to the Mississippi Delta? Dine on the patio at The Delta for an immersive exploration of the region’s food and drink. Check ’em out for Mississippi Red Hot tamales and bottomless mimosas at Sunday Soul Brunch.
